Hello Visitor,
Overview
- The purpose of this site is to cement improved safety for all users on Redbourn Road (A5183)
- Herts Cares for Corpses (HCC) has been selected targeting the same initials as Herts County Council (HCC) as it is clear that Herts County Council does not care about the death toll on this road, as no road safety measures have materialised since the first death in 1980 (43 years ago), despite promises having been repeatedly made
- Having read experiences of and observed many of the road rage incidents in this stretch from aggressive driving and the ensuing fatalities, there is a justified angst among the public and the emergency services who cannot understand the lack of action on the part of Herts County Council.
Brief
- Redbourn road is an arterial road cutting through a residential area to/from the M1 and St Albans
-
The road is set at the National Speed Limit (60 mph for country roads) in some places
- This is unacceptable, as this is a residential area
- The National Speed Limit is seen as a target (by some drivers), rather than a maximum guide
- The death toll above is not taken being seriously enough
- Users are walkers, joggers, cyclists, farm vehicles, trucks, vans, lorries and articulated vehicles
Objectives
- Achieve at least 10,000 signatures with the aim of 100,000 for Herts County Council to finally take matters seriously
-
There is a view that 20 is not a sufficiently high death toll for Herts County Council and this site asks "What death count is needed at which Herts County Council will be jolted into positive action?"
- If you care about the safety on this road, then add your name to the petition below
Actions needed
- Reduce speed limits in residential sections, down to 30 mph. This is not unintelligible as parts of St Albans are already at 20 mph, for the same purpose of reducing deaths.
- Install speed cameras at the known accident hot spots
- Install crash barriers along pedestrian routes to safeguard these users from any stray vehicles
- Add lighting on pedestrian crossing areas and especially at road bends to aid visibility
Caretakers & Achievements
-
FailedOwen Mapley: Herts County Council - Chief Executive
- By virtue of the on-going death count and lack of any safety measures
- Owen Mapley has been emailed on 06/10/23 for his inputs with respect to improving the safety on Redbourn Rd
-
FailedSteve Johnson: Herts County Council - Head of Highways Contracts and Management
- By virtue of the on-going death count and lack of any safety measures
-
FailedAnnie Brewster: Non-elected Redbourn county councillor
- Annie has successfully published an article headlining her picture extolling the variable speed limits that were to be in situ for Summer'23 and her 'tireless work' in this endeavour for many years
- Annie fails to respond to any emails requesting updates on safety measures
-
MarginalBim Afolami: MP for Hitchin & Harpenden
- Bim has been engaging and on the most recent death (Sept'23) a response has been received and Bim is once again pursuing Herts County Council
- In previous correspondence, when concerns have been raised, Bim has deferred to the Summer'23 trial which has not materialised
-
MarginalDavid Lloyd: Police & Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire
- Police have been observed conducting a speed trap outside Prae Wood Arms, which is encouraging, but does not address the real speeders (60+ mph) between Redbournbury Lane and Hogg End Lane
- David Lloyd has been emailed on 06/10/23 with a request to change the speed trap to be between Redbournbury Ln and Hogg End Ln
Your involvement
- Please complete the petition if you do not want to see yourself, a relative or someone you know become another injury statistic and that the actions needed are the minimum safety standards that are now expected on Redbourn Road
- There are 205,000 residents between St Albans, Hemel Hempstead and Dunstable, so the objective stated is achievable - make your voice count!
- Circulate the link to everyone you know, so that change can be effected
